Ensuring your toy crane machine is perfectly level is crucial for its correct operation and fair gameplay. An unlevel machine can cause the claw to drift, misalign with prizes, and frustrate players. Here’s a straightforward guide to get it right.
First, gather a reliable spirit or bubble level. A longer level (at least 2 feet) provides the most accurate reading across the machine's wide body. Place the level on the main playfield glass, checking both side-to-side and front-to-back. Mark the current positions of the machine's feet or casters with a pencil for reference.
Most crane machines have adjustable feet or leveling legs. Turn the feet clockwise to raise that corner and counter-clockwise to lower it. Make small, incremental adjustments. After each turn, recheck the level. The goal is for the bubble to be centered in both directions. If your machine is on casters, you may need locking caster cups or shims (thin, sturdy wedges) placed underneath to achieve stability.
Don't forget internal components. Once the cabinet is level, open the service door and check that the claw gantry (the mechanism that moves the claw) is also level relative to the playfield. Some models have separate adjustment bolts for this. A level gantry ensures the claw drops straight down.
Finally, perform a functionality test. Run the claw through its full range of motion—left/right, forward/backward, and drop/retract. It should move smoothly without any binding or consistent drifting toward one side. Test the claw's grab over various prize locations. Proper leveling guarantees the claw's path is true, making the game both fun and trustworthy for players. Regular checks are recommended, especially after moving the machine.
