Arcade machines, like any electrical equipment, require careful consideration of fire safety. The use of fire-resistant materials is crucial to prevent the ignition and spread of fire, protecting both the machine and its users. The most common types of fire-resistant materials found in arcade machines include flame-retardant plastics, various metals, and specialized coatings.

A primary category is flame-retardant plastics. Many internal components, casings, and control panels are manufactured from plastics that have been treated or formulated to resist ignition and slow flame propagation. These materials often carry specific safety ratings, such as UL 94, which classifies their burning characteristics. Using these plastics significantly reduces the fire hazard associated with electrical short circuits or overheating components.

Metal is another fundamental fire-resistant material. The internal chassis, structural framework, and enclosures for high-power components like power supplies and monitors are typically made from steel or aluminum. These metals are inherently non-combustible and provide a critical barrier, containing any potential fire within a specific area and preventing it from spreading to more flammable parts.

Furthermore, intumescent coatings are sometimes applied to key areas. These are passive fire protection materials that swell when heated, forming an insulating char that protects underlying materials from high temperatures. They might be used on certain internal structural elements. Finally, fire-resistant wiring with insulation that does not readily support combustion is essential for all electrical circuits, ensuring that a fault in one wire does not easily ignite others. The combination of these materials creates a layered defense, making modern arcade machines significantly safer from fire risks.
