Maintaining classic arcade cabinets requires a specific set of tools and a stock of common spare parts. For diagnostics, a digital multimeter is indispensable for checking power supply voltages and tracing circuit board issues. A quality soldering iron and desoldering pump are crucial for replacing components on printed circuit boards (PCBs). For physical repairs, screwdrivers, nut drivers, and a rubber mallet for adjusting monitors are essential.

Regarding spare parts, joysticks and pushbuttons are the most frequently replaced items due to wear and tear. Having microswitches, springs, and actuators on hand is wise. For the display, a cap kit (a set of capacitors) is a common fix for aging monitors suffering from visual distortions. Power supplies are another common point of failure, so a reliable replacement is a must-have. Finally, components for the coin door, such as mechs and bulbs, are often needed to keep the cabinet earning. Building a collection of these tools and parts is the first step to becoming a proficient arcade technician.
